Full-time role for: A Top 200 Chicago-area CPA firm
Naperville, IL 60563
full-time
$120,000 - $150,000
Most tax managers at a Big 4 or national firm eventually hit the same fork: go to industry, or go to a small firm.
Industry pays well, but you become "the tax person." One of one. No team. No new clients. Your technical edge dulls within three years because there's nothing to sharpen it against.
Small firm keeps the public accounting work, but the clients get smaller, the infrastructure disappears, and the 70-hour weeks follow you anyway—just without the training budget or the bench.
There's a third option most people don't seriously consider: a Top 200 regional firm that's built the systems and client base to actually hold a 45-hour cap.
The client work doesn't shrink. You're still running nonprofit, partnership, and corporate engagements. The team is real—seniors who don't need you rewriting their workpapers, partners who close the loop on feedback in days not months. The hybrid schedule is the schedule, not a policy you're secretly dinged for using.
The only thing that changes is the volume of nonsense.
